Food Dogs

JustFoodForDogs

Just Food For Dogs sells fresh pet food for dogs, with a range of purchase options and meal plans, including therapeutic diets and bespoke recipes.

Fresh dog food is perfect for owners who wish to offer less processed food without having to prepare at home.

Just Food For Dogs does not need a membership, although it does provide an auto-ship option for convenience.

Prices vary based on the type of food you pick and your dog’s size (beginning at $5 per day for the smallest canines).

Jäger, my tiny poodle, is ten years old and has lived his entire life on high-quality dog food. I know more about dog food than others since I’ve worked in the pet industry for two decades, both in veterinarian clinics and as a pet editor and writer.

I’ve always given my dog high-quality kibble and canned meals, but in recent months, I’ve begun experimenting with firms who prepare and deliver fresh pet food. Just Food For Dogs, which provided editorial review samples to feed Jäger for a month, was the most recent company I evaluated.

Just Food For Dogs is extraordinary for individuals who need choices. You can look over six changed kinds of dinners: new, new frozen, PantryFresh (rack stable), Vet Support (remedial eating regimens that require a solution from your veterinarian), custom suppers for canines with uncommon necessities, and DYI Homemade units (plans and supplement mixes, to which you add new meat and different fixings to make hand crafted canine food). Only Food For Dogs additionally sells its own line of enhancements and treats — and feline food, as well, in the event that you have a catlike relative.

How to order and how to sign up

Most fresh pet food providers ask you to sign up for an auto-delivery subscription. That is not the case with Just Dog Food. Although auto-ship is a convenient option, it is not needed. At any time, you can buy any meal for any amount.

JustFoodForDogs.com and Amazon sell food for dogs, and the firm delivers to all 50 states. You may go into one of the company’s eight open-to-the-public kitchens and buy your meal if you’re lucky enough to live near one. JustFoodForDogs produces all of its food in USDA-inspected kitchens in California, New York, and Washington, where full-time food safety experts and nutrition advisors can assist you in selecting the finest food for your dog. There are other options for remote consultations.

Best Food For Dogs

Food is also available in person at more than 200 veterinarian clinic pantries, as well as select Petco and Pet Food Express stores.

I got a nutrition counseling over the phone before placing my first order. My consultation was informative and detailed, although it took some time to go through all of the various food alternatives. You may select from six normal dishes and one seasonal recipe with fresh and fresh-frozen meals.

There are four different recipes for PantryFresh meals. There is just one protein source in each fresh-frozen recipe. There are also grain-free and gluten-free alternatives. My account was set up and my first order was placed by my consultant. I may now log in at any time and reorder meals.

Delivery and feeding

I picked two dishes from each of the Fresh Frozen and PantryFresh meal lines for this assessment. Feeding my 20-pound dog with the recipes I tried cost around $30 to $37 per week.

My first delivery arrived on time. I was able to have the food brought straight to my home by one of Just Food For Dogs’ trucks because I live close to one of their kitchens. My meal was wrapped in an insulated bag with frozen gel packs to keep it fresh. I received email notifications when the driver was on their way.

Just Food For Dogs fresh-frozen meals resemble actual food, as you might expect given the company’s name. Although everything is cut up and blended together, individual ingredients like as ground meat, potatoes, and carrots can be seen. PantryFresh has a consistency similar to canned dog food, but with visible pieces of fresh ingredients throughout.

Fresh frozen food must be thawed overnight in the refrigerator before feeding, however PantryFresh food can be fed right away. The food is packed in normal serving sizes. Check the suggested feeding quantities for each recipe to discover how much to give your dog based on their weight.

Just Food For Dogs also has a helpful online feeding calculator. Although you can measure how much to feed by cup, I found that using a kitchen scale and measuring by weight was more precise.

What makes it unique?

Both the fresh frozen and PantryFresh food are favorites of my dog. Every time he gets to his bowl, he licks it clean. Indeed, that stinker just turned down a high-end canned meal he used to enjoy — something he’d never done before! Looking at his poops, which are tiny and shaped, I can tell the meal is agreeing with him.

I like that the USDA inspects and approves all of the ingredients for human consumption. I also appreciate that each recipe’s components and nutritional information are written on the packaging for easy reference. The nutritional values defined by the AAFCO Dog Food Nutrient Profiles for maintenance and/or growth have been met in all recipes by a team of veterinarians. And here’s the kicker: Just Food For Dogs is the only fresh pet food company that has done feeding studies on its recipes to far.

The bottom line

Fresh pet food is more expensive than kibble and canned dog food, which should come as no surprise. Using high-quality, human-grade ingredients, hiring a team of veterinarians to design recipes, and performing feeding trials and other studies all come at a greater expense. However, many pet owners believe that the health advantages of fresh, minimally processed dog food outweigh the price.

Other fresh pet food products we’ve evaluated and endorsed include Farmer’s Dog, Nom Nom, Ollie, PetPlate, and Spot & Tango. In terms of selection and buying possibilities, however, no other fresh pet food provider comes close. Just Food For Pets is a fantastic alternative for pet owners wanting to feed their dogs the finest.

Pros: USDA-approved ingredients, no preservatives or by-products, six different food types, a wide variety of recipes to choose from plus rotating seasonal specials, veterinary support and custom diets available, no subscription required (though an auto-ship option is available), nutrition consultants available.

Cons: Expensive; feeding quantities vary by kind of food and recipe; food packs must be transferred from the freezer to the refrigerator to defrost; fresh food cannot be kept out all day like kibble.
